Biography

In the face of difficulties, pain, changes, struggles, and mental health issues, it is my firm belief that all of us need to be heard, first and foremost. Psychologist Carl Rogers said, “When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on. It is astonishing how elements which seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens.”

I have found in my own life that having a therapist who was there to hear me and listen to my story was the first step forward into healing and being empowered to create the life I wanted. Being heard allows us to gain that wider perspective and be open to learning new ways to meet our challenges head on and come through as the person we want to be. With an interest in client-centered, narrative, internal family systems, and relational-cultural approaches, my goal as a therapist is to really hear you without judgment or agenda, and offer the tools and support you need to create the life YOU want. I have a particular interest in helping clients in the LGBTQ+ community, elderly clients, and those navigating faith crisis and religious trauma, grief and end-of-life situations, and women’s issues.

On a personal note, I received a BA in English literature as my undergrad degree, and have spent most of my life working as a writer and author. After a series of events turned life upside down for me, my own journey through therapy and the healing and growth I found made me decide to switch careers. Upon graduation with my Master’s of Art in Clinical Mental Health Therapy from Southern New Hampshire University, I will be an associate clinical mental health counselor.

I’ve been married for seventeen years and have four children. We have a rainbow family, with myself and one of my children claiming membership in the queer community. I grew up in northern Utah and have lived in St. George for almost ten years now! I will always miss my mountains and forest, but I’m becoming better friends with the desert. Time in nature is my jam (do people still say that? I’m people, and I do…), as is reading and writing, playing piano and singing, playing video games, paddleboarding, and whatever my current ADHD hyperfocus has me hooked on (watercolor painting, playing violin, learning to speak Welsh, embroidery, archery…). On my bucket list is traveling the world, learning how to sail a boat, and one day, perhaps, managing to raise a garden in the southern Utah desert!
